Walker County’s business license, legally referred to as an occupation tax certificate, took effect July 1, 2019 for any person or entity starting a new business. Businesses in existence on or before June 30, 2019 can acquire, but do not need a business license until January 1, 2020.
All businesses are required to comply with applicable Zoning Ordinances.
If the business is located in unincorporated Walker County, a license is required to operate. If the business is located in the city limits of one of the municipalities within Walker County, the business will be registered with those cities and a county business license is not necessary.
Any individual, partnership, corporation/LLC, or entity engaged in business must obtain a license prior to engaging in these activities, unless they meet these specified exemptions.
Here are the steps to apply for a business license:
- New Applicants:
- LLC or INC must first register with the Georgia Secretary of State before continuing to Step 2
- Sole Proprietors continue to Step 2
- Print or pick up a business license application
- Applications are available to download here or pick up in person at the Planning and Zoning Office at 122 Highway 95 in Rock Spring, GA
- Complete the application and turn it in at the Planning and Zoning Office with payment. This office will verify if the business activity may be conducted at the designated location, ie proper zoning.
- After verification has been made, a business license will be issued
