The Walker County Board of Commissioners and the City of Chickamauga recently approved a Joint Resolution to name the Chickamauga Battlefield Connector trail in John Culpepper’s honor.
Culpepper first envisioned the development of this trail in 2013 and laid the groundwork for its creation while serving as Chickamauga’s City Manager. A key figure in local historic preservation efforts, Culpepper also led initiatives to document and preserve local Civil War, African American and Native American history.
This 2.2 mile trail linking downtown Chickamauga to the Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park is named in Culpepper’s honor to recognize his vision and leadership. A grand opening for the trail, which is now open, will take place later this spring.
