The Governing Authority of Walker County, Georgia proposes to amend the County Code of Ordinances:  

  • O-03-19 proposes to implement Title 48, Chapter 13, Article 3, Section 51 of the Official Code of Georgia placing an excise tax on rooms, lodging and accommodations.
  • O-04-19 proposes to create the Walker County Business Code, aka a business license.

Public Hearings on O-03-19 & O-04-19 will be held on March 14, 2019 and March 28, 2019 at 6:00 p.m. at the Walker County Courthouse Annex III, 201 S Main Street in LaFayette, GA.

Walker County, GA is part of the thriving Chattanooga, TN-GA MSA, featuring a population of 68,939 people, according to the latest U.S. Census Bureau estimate.

The county boasts a labor force of 31,344. Nearly 39% of local jobs are in the service sector, while manufacturing accounts for 33% of all private employment positions.​ Roper Corporation, Shaw Industries Group and Nissin Brake Georgia are among Walker County’s top employers.

Walker County is also home to several major tourist attractions, like Rock City Gardens, and adventure destinations, such as Pettyjohn’s Cave, Rocktown and Lula Lake.
