The Chief of Walker County Police position pays $19.00 to $23.00 per hour, depending on experience & qualifications.

The Chief of Walker County Police serves as the Chief codes enforcement officer, providing immediate supervision to other Walker County Police and Codes Officers, as well as guidance and expertise in complex and difficult situations that arise in enforcement of Walker County codes and ordinances.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, crouch and twist to perform such tasks as:

Hand and foot dexterity is required to operate office equipment, drive a vehicle and handle paperwork.

Hearing and speech is necessary to communicate with citizens and co-workers in person, by telephone and radio.

Good vision is required for all functions.

This position must be able to lift 25 pounds occasionally.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually exposed to a noise level that is moderate to loud.

About 65% to 75% of the work is performed outdoors daily and in seasonally extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, as well as rain and other environmental elements.  

About 15% to 20% of the time is spent in an office with a controlled environment, and about 15% to 20% of the time is spent driving from one location to another in traffic and weather conditions normal to the Walker County region.

Physical hazards include dangerous equipment, noise and vibration, exposure to foul smells, fumes, gases, chemicals, dust and dirt from time to time. The employee will be expected to wear proper protective equipment including, protective eyewear, gloves, protective footwear, hard hat and reflective safety vest.
