- Public votes on a Single County TSPLOST on November 7, 2017 (est. cost: $12,698)
- TSPLOST is a Transportation Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax
- 1% sales tax increase
- It would run for 5 years
- Tax would begin on April 1, 2018 and sunset on March 31, 2023
- Tax would generate about $3 million a year
- Walker County would get 75% or $2.25 million
- LaFayette would get 11.67% or $350,100
- Rossville would get 6.3% or $189,000
- Chickamauga would get 3.77% or $113,100
- Lookout Mountain would get 2.87% or $86,100
- Fort Oglethorpe would get 0.39% or $11,700

- Walker County will use TSPLOST money to match a state grant known as LMIG (Local Maintenance Improvement Grant) to bring in close to $1 million in additional money for roads each year.
- There is almost $1 million in LMIG funds in the bank now and more than $1 million coming at end of year. If not used, LMIG funds must be returned after three years.
- There are 674 miles of county roads.
- It currently costs about $100,000 to resurface a mile of county road.
- Along with paving, five bridges need repaired. School buses are not allowed to cross these bridges.
- The county will not have money for two years to pave roads without the TSPLOST.
- Walker County will not borrow (bond) money for roads – We will PAY AS WE GO.
- TSPLOST will be kept in a fund separate of other county funds.
- Each local government will get to decide which roads they want to pave.
- Sales tax does not apply to gasoline or diesel fuel.
