Walker County recognizes that digital connectivity is essential for all residents to participate in the workforce, have access to public health, engage in community resources, support agriculture, connect with emergency response, and provide educational opportunities.

In October 2023, Walker County was selected to participate in the Appalachian Digital Accelerator project, led by Connect Humanity, to develop a Community Connectivity Plan (CCP) for the county. In early 2024, Walker County partnered with Thrive Regional Partnership to utilize their subject matter expertise to begin work on the plan

The CCP provides an inventory of which Internet Service Providers (ISP) are located in the county, where they are located, services and speeds offered, affordability of those services, which areas of the county are unserved or underserved and other challenges that impact the community from getting online.

The CCP will serve as a strategic plan to help Walker County attain Broadband Ready Community status in the State of Georgia, and enhance the county’s efforts to partner with ISPs to address service gaps in the community.
