Traveling by train is another exciting way to experience Walker County. The Tennessee Valley Railroad offers a unique opportunity to view parts of Walker County from a different perspective. The Chickamauga Turn, one of the Tennessee Valley Railroad’s many routes, has layovers in downtown Chickamauga and the Chickamauga Battlefield.

The layover in Chickamauga lasts an hour and 15 minutes and allows passengers to explore areas like the Walker County Regional Heritage Museum/Train Museum and the Gordon Lee Mansion. The Battlefield layover is at Wilder Tower and lasts a half hour.

The train ride lasts a little over 6 hours and  has dining options are available. The excursion on the Chickamauga Turn route begins in Chattanooga and makes the stops in Chickamauga before returning to its starting point in Chattanooga.
