The Walker County Animal Shelter and Adoption Center serves the North Georgia community by providing humane care for animals that are lost, abandoned and unwanted. We strive to place every adoptable animal into good loving homes and encourage good pet guardianship through programs such as spay/neuter to help end the homeless plight of our companion animals. If you are looking for Animal Control, please visit their page.
Monday through Friday – 10:00am to 4:00pm
Saturday – 8:00am to 1:00pm
Changes are coming to how Walker County addresses animal issues. Formal public hearings will take place on May 10 and May 24 at 6 p.m. before the Commissioner’s regular scheduled meetings. Those hearings will be held at the Courthouse Annex III building, 201 S Main Street in LaFayette.

In 2017, we became a Fellow with Target Zero, a non-profit organization helping us to improve care at our animal shelter, make adoptions easier and reduce the cycle of unwanted pets. You can read the Target Zero assessment of our shelter here and follow our progress in the Records section of this site.

In 2017, we hosted several special events to find new homes for our adoptable animals. We hosted a Priceless Pets event in May and adopted out 25 dogs and 16 cats. In December, during our “12 hours of Christmas Adopt-A-Thon,” we adopted out 17 dogs and 7 cats!
