Bridge Replacement on Old Trion Highway to Begin August 15

LaFayette, GA – The Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) has approved and awarded a contract to replace the bridge on Old Trion Highway that crosses over Dry Creek, 4.4 miles south of Lafayette.

Following an inspection, GDOT engineers found the bridge to be deficient and required posting due to exposed footings of columns, spans that had shifted and the settlement of a widened cap.

The two-lane, 120-foot long x 27-foot wide structure will be replaced with a 200-foot long x 29′-1″ wide bridge. The new construction will allow for two 10-foot lanes with paved shoulders and concrete barriers on each side. The total project length is 0.242 miles.

Construction on the $2.1-million project is expected to begin on August 15 and will result in the bridge being closed for nearly a year. The off-site detour is approximately 2.8 miles long and will be marked with detour signs.
