Walker County Emergency Management will open a shelter at 3:00 p.m. today at Saddle Ridge School (9858 N. Highway 27, Rock Spring) for those in need of a safe place to stay until some potentially severe weather passes. Those planning to shelter at this location should bring their own snacks and drinks, along with other essentials, including charging cables, clothing and blankets.
A broken line of showers and thunderstorms will move across the county Tuesday evening through early Wednesday morning. Although storms could move into northwest Georgia as early as 6:00 p.m., the highest threat will be after 9:00 p.m., continuing overnight through sunrise Wednesday.
An Enhanced Risk (level 3 out of 5) has been introduced across portions of northwest Georgia. Stronger storms may produce locally heavy rain, damaging winds or tornadoes, and hail up to one inch. Storms are slated to come to an end with the passage of a cold front.
