The Governing Body of Walker County, Georgia is responsible for helping county departments carry out their day-to-day operations. These departments include the 911 center, Animal Services, Public Works, Finance, Administration, Purchasing, Payroll, Fire and Rescue, Emergency Management, Planning, Economic Development, Recreation, and Public Health and Welfare, among others. The Governing Body staff assists the Chair of the Board of Commissioners with carrying out departmental functions.
Shannon Whitfield serves as Chairman/CEO of the Board of Commissioners. He was elected to a four-year term that began on January 1, 2021. He was previously elected and served as Sole Commissioner of Walker County, Georgia from 2017 to 2020.
