JOB SUMMARY

This position is responsible for cleaning the facilities, including but not limited to the high-touch surfaces, removing debris, keeping areas neat and tidy in county buildings, as well as vacuuming and buffing floors, shampooing carpets, emptying trash receptacles, replacing the lining of trash cans and sanitizing the buildings after public use. This team member also helps manage the outdoor landscaping, as well as the care and maintenance of the walking track, pavilion, dog park, and playground. Minor facility repairs and maintenance are also required.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

Cleaning the facilities, including, but not limited to:

  • Maintaining clean furniture, floors, carpets, windows, and mirrors
  • Using chemicals to disinfect buildings, bathrooms, and common areas
  • Setting up tables and chairs, and installing the dance floor as needed

Perform groundskeeping and routine maintenance duties, including, but not limited to:

  • Utilizing a pressure washer to clean buildings, walkways, and parking lots
  • Working with hand tools, power tools, and driving motorized equipment, such as mowers and utility vehicles
  • Landscaping activities such as watering, raking, mulching, pruning, weeding, planting, and fertilizing various vegetation
  • Apply pesticide to rid pests such as ants, mosquitos, wasps, ticks, and other insects
  • Salting and shoveling snow and ice from walkways and parking lots
  • Performing minor repairs and maintenance on and around the campus
  • Litter control inside and outside the complex

Other duties as assigned, possibly without prior notice, by management

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must be at least 18 years of age
  • Must be able to pass a criminal background check and periodic and random drug screens

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

  • A valid driver’s license
  • Ability to maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR)

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

These physical demands are representative of the physical requirements for an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of the Custodial/Maintenance job. Reasonable accommodation can be made to enable people with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this job.

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to stand, walk, sit, climb, bend, crouch, and twist to perform such tasks as:

  • Mopping, sweeping, vacuuming, waxing, and polishing floors
  • Cleaning countertops, dusting, and polishing furniture
  • Cleaning windows
  • Scrubbing and cleaning sinks and toilets
  • Bagging and carting trash to the dumpster
  • Organizing, maintaining, lifting, and reaching supplies and equipment
  • Climbing and operating equipment, twisting to get inside a vehicle

Hand and foot dexterity is required to operate cleaning equipment 

Hearing and speech are necessary to communicate with customers and co-workers in person, by telephone, and in person. Good vision is required for all functions.

This position must be able to lift 35 pounds frequently.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually exposed to a noise level that is moderate to loud. Work is performed in a variety of buildings, requiring travel between assignments by foot or car. Half of the tasks are performed indoors with heating and air conditioning and the other half of the work is performed outdoors and in seasonally extreme temperatures, both hot and cold, as well as rain and other environmental elements, and weather conditions normal to this region.  Physical hazards include travel, using power equipment, noise and vibration, and exposure to fumes, gasses, chemicals, dust, and dirt.

The employee should wear comfortable and durable clothing. The employee will be expected to wear proper protective equipment such as, but not limited to, foot support and protection, protective eyewear, and gloves.
