TAG & TAX SPECIALIST:

JOB SUMMARY 

Beginning level of employment in the office of the Walker County Tax Commissioner. The employee will be learning all areas of tax collections and Tag and Title duties. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES 

  • View and study training steps in the new DRIVES system to pass tests required to use the system
  • Practice using all systems in the Tax Commissioner’s Office
  • Begin practicing good customer service
  • Practice team work with fellow employees
  • Begin processing mail payments and tag renewals
  • Follow proper procedures in all areas
  • Obtain knowledge of Georgia codes (laws) that apply to the Tax Office
  • Other duties as assigned. Duties, responsibilities and activities may change at any time with or without notice. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE 

  • High School Diploma or GED or be a student under a work study program
  • Must be at least 18 years of age or again if a student must be at least 16 years of age 

SKILLS AND ABILITIES 

  • Able to meet daily requirements with emphasis on efficiency and timeliness
  • Beginning working knowledge of state codes for ad valorem taxes and regulations
  •  Ability to communicate professionally and courteously with the general public
  • Use of computers, copiers, telephones, faxes, and other general office equipment
  • Ability to work knowledgably and professionally with staff members.
  • Procedures and policies pertaining to duties
  • Knowledge of General safety rules and regulations pertaining to duties. 

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS 

  • Specialized training is required in all areas (must be able to pass tests required for work)
  • A valid driver’s license and maintain a satisfactory Motor Vehicle Report (MVR). (ONLY IF DRIVING IS REQUIRED TO PERFORM DUTIES.)

  • Observing the work site and work duties of others

  • Sitting at a desk or county, or in meeting for an extended time period
  • Reaching for objects
  • Kneeling, bending, or crouching to file or to retrieve objects frim lower shelves or the groud
  • Crawling under counters or desks to reach equipment
  • Pushing and pulling file drawers or tables and chairs
  • Climbing stairs
  • Twisiting from computer to phone, getting inside vehicle, getting through tight places.
  • Hand and foot dexterity is required to operate office equipment, and paperwork.
  • Hearing and speech is necessary to communicate with customers and co-workers in person or by telephone
  • Good vision is required for all functions
  • Must be able to life 25 pounds occasionally

WORK ENVIRONMENT 

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is usually exposed to a noise level that is moderate to loud. 
  • About 95% of the work is performed in a controlled office environment with regulated heating and air conditioning. 
  • An estimated 5% of the time is spent driving from one location to another in traffic and weather conditions normal to this region. 
  • Physical hazards include using electrical equipment, climbing up to sit on counter stools, standing for long periods
